#2) S Sreesanth
Once a prominent figure as India’s lead fast bowler in both ODI and Test cricket, Sreesanth’s actions, both on and off the field, not only led to his exclusion from the international squad but also marked the downfall of his cricketing journey
Known for his flamboyant and extravagant demeanour, Sreesanth’s first encounter with controversy unfolded during India’s 2006 South Africa tour. His actions against Andre Nel and Hashim Amla incurred fines from the ICC, hinting at his proclivity for stirring disputes. Subsequently, in 2007, he was fined half of his match fees for deliberately colliding with Michael Vaughan during a test match.
Nevertheless, it is the scandal that forever stains Sreesanth’s legacy. In 2013, the fast bowler, alongside two fellow Rajasthan Royals players, faced arrest by Delhi police on allegations of match-fixing in the IPL. Following his admission of guilt, Sreesanth, alongside teammate Ankeet Chavan, was issued a lifetime ban by the BCCI. This marked one of the most significant match-fixing controversies in the history of Indian Cricket since 2000, solidifying Sreesanth’s unfortunate association with scandal and the subsequent collapse of his cricketing career.
