Monza vs Lecce: Preview
Monza form analysis
Monza’s first Serie A match ended in disappointment as they lost 0-2 away at champions Inter Milan. Lautaro Martinez’s first half and late strikes saw them comfortably beaten.
However, they responded well as Monza claimed their first top flight victory by beating Empoli 2-0 at home. An Alessandro Colpani brace either side of halftime sealed the historic win.
But Monza were then brought firmly down to earth as they were thrashed 0-3 at home by high-flyers Atalanta last time out. First half goals from Ederson and Scamacca set the tone before Scamacca added a third to round off a dominant win.
Overall, it’s been a mixed start to life in Serie A for Monza as they experience the step up in quality. Competing well in patches against Inter and dispatching Empoli was promising. But establishing more consistency and resilience will be crucial as they aim to avoid relegation this season.
Lecce form analysis
Lecce made the perfect start to life back in the top flight by producing a dramatic 2-1 home win over Lazio on the opening weekend. Goals from Almqvist and Di Francesco late on sealed a remarkable comeback after going behind.
However, some defensive issues came to the fore in their next match as Lecce could only draw 2-2 at home to Fiorentina despite twice equalizing through Rafia and Krstovic.
Most recently though, Lecce produced an excellent performance to beat fellow promoted side Salernitana 2-0 away from home. Krstovic and Strefezza grabbed the goals in an accomplished display.
Overall, it’s been an extremely encouraging start to the season for Lecce as they aim to retain their Serie A status. The opening weekend Lazio win showcased their threat going forward. Building on that solidity and spirit can help them pull away from danger this campaign.
