Monaco vs Reims: Preview
Monaco form analysis
AS Monaco have shown largely positive form over their past five Ligue 1 matches. On 25th November, they scored twice in impressive fashion at PSG but ultimately lost out in a seven goal thriller. Things improved on 3rd December with a professional 2-0 home win over Montpellier thanks to goals from Minamino and a last minute Ben Yedder penalty. Their form remained strong on 9th December, beating fellow high flyers Rennes 1-2 away courtesy of strikes from Vanderson and Fofana either side of a late Bourigeaud consolation spot kick.
However, Monaco’s momentum stalled on 16th December with a disappointing 0-1 home loss to Lyon, undone by Jeffinho’s late winner. They responded perfectly on 21st December though, coming from behind to beat Toulouse 1-2 away with Ben Yedder netting a brace after Magri’s early opener. Overall, Monaco have shown capacity to beat lesser sides over this spell and could push PSG close this term if tightening up in bigger games.
Reims form analysis
Reims have shown inconsistent results over their past five Ligue 1 matches. On 26th November, they suffered a disappointing 1-3 away defeat at high flying Rennes, briefly levelling through Diakité before second half goals from Bourigeaud and Theate settled matters. Things improved on 2nd December with an important 2-1 home win over Strasbourg courtesy of Richardson’s early opener and Perrin’s own goal either side of a late Gameiro penalty consolation. However, Reims were unable to build momentum as on 10th December they lost 1-2 at home to Nice, equalizing through Abdelhamid after going behind to Laborde but undone by Boga’s late winner.
Form dipped further on 17th December with a disappointing 0-2 home loss to top four rivals Lens, with no answer to goals from Saïd and substitute Cortés. Most recently on 21st December, Reims got back to winning ways with a hard fought 1-0 home victory over Le Havre in the league cup courtesy of Nakamura’s goal. Overall Reims have struggled to sustain positive form over this spell and addressing issues at both ends could aid consistency.
