Monaco vs Brest: Preview
Monaco form analysis
Monaco’s recent run of games has showcased an exciting attack but vulnerabilities defensively that need addressing. They started with a last gasp 1-0 home loss in the derby with Nice, punished by a late Boga goal. However, their attack clicked in a thrilling 3-2 home win over Marseille – Akliouche inspiring a comeback after going behind early. This continued next game as they hammered Reims 3-1 away, scoring 3 goals in the second half through clinical finishing.
There was a reality check in a 1-2 home win over struggling Metz – going behind early before two Golovin goals. Most recently they suffered a disappointing 0-2 home loss to rivals Lille, failing to get going and made to pay for sloppy defending. Overall, Monaco has no shortage of attacking flair with talents like Ben Yedder and Golovin impressing but they remain far too open defensively. Tightening up at the back will be crucial to their hopes of a top 3 finish this season.
Brest form analysis
Brest’s recent run of form has shown defensive solidity and resilience but a lack of firepower upfront. They started with an impressive 1-0 home win over Lyon thanks to a late Mounie goal against the run of play. This stubbornness continued in the next game as they held Nice 0-0 away from home, defending stoutly throughout. However, problems in attack surfaced as they drew 1-1 at home with Toulouse despite dominance – only equalizing late through Satriano.
Their struggles in the final third persisted in a narrow 0-1 home loss to Lille, lacking creativity and made to pay by an early Yazici goal. Most recently they threatened a major upset against PSG, twice equalizing through Mounie and Douaron but were sunk by a late Mbappe winner. Overall, Brest’s defense has impressed but they lack punch upfront to convert promising spells into goals and results. Adding an attacking threat seems vital.
