Moeen Ali Says England Needs Some Young Players with Commitment in the Team
England’s vice-captain, Moeen Ali, supports bringing new talent into the team following their exit from the 50-over World Cup in India. Despite entering the tournament as one of the favorites, England was eliminated after a series of losses, including a defeat against Australia.
Moeen, a 36-year-old all-rounder, expresses his desire for younger players to join the squad, stating, “Everything good comes to an end, and maybe the writing was on the wall.” He believes this is an exciting opportunity for the team to restart with fearless, young players, similar to their successful 2015 campaign.
Moeen suggests playing the younger players and is willing to discuss this with the team captain and white-ball coach. England is now aiming for a top-eight finish to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

“I think if I was in charge I’d play the younger guys. I’d just start again and I’m sure they’re going to do that. You want that fearless approach again and it’s a great time to start again,” Moeen said.
The tournament has been disastrous for England. They failed on all fronts. The manner of defeat has brought s sense of resentment towards the team members. A few days ago, Matthew Mott said all of players are out of form which was quite hard to believe. In actuality, it appears that the team is not in the right space.
You don’t see confidence in the English camp, there is only desperation and urge to cut down the damage. In most of the matches, England lost the game in first 15 overs which reflects how prepared and united they were to defend the World Cup title.
“Maybe the writing was on the wall and we just didn’t see it as players because we thought we’d be performing well. But I just think everything good comes to an end at some point,” added Moeen.
The Transformation Might Start After World Cup as Senior England Players Let Down the Team
The top order doesn’t bat for long and the short amount of period it pads, the strike rate is abysmal there. Established players like Joe Root and Ben Stokes has completely let down England as they have only added problems to the team.
In simple words, it is not the right fit for a team hence Moeen Ali is absolutely right in suggesting that England needs young blood. For long, a few English players are in the ream because of theirs reputation. For what they achieved in 2019, however, that cannot be the benchmark for selection.
There is Harry Brook, who is one of the finest talent in world, warming the bench while bigger names are consistently given chances despite giving disappointing performance. The way Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root and Ben Stokes have batted, Brook can certainly fit in for any of them.
