Boxing legend Mike Tyson has recently made a concerning comment about his physical condition, raising concerns about his preparation for his upcoming bout against Jake Paul. Many people have shared their concerns about Tyson’s preparation to fight a much younger opponent. However, former boxers like Lennox Lewis and Roy Jones Jr. are concerned about Paul’s safety as they know about the power of “Iron Mike” in the ring. During the first leg of their press tour, Tyson and Paul faced each other for the first time since the announcement of their professional bout, which is scheduled for July 20.
Tyson is determined about the match
During the press conference, the 57-year-old was questioned about critics’ concerns about his age, his return to the ring and the huge difference between him and Jake Paul. While responding, Tyson simply said, “I’m beautiful that’s all I can say.” When pressed for a clear response, he stated, “I’m doing great, but my body is sore right now.”
When the former boxing champion was asked if he was intentionally downplaying his condition, he replied, “I would.”
Mike has apparently struggled with sciatica in recent years and has been seen using a walking stick for support. Despite his legendary status, his physical condition has given rise to criticism within the boxing community over the wisdom of sanctioning the fight, which would affect both fighters’ professional records. Tyson’s last professional fight in the boxing ring was against Kevin McBride, where “Kid Dynamite” suffered the loss. Tyson has suffered several setbacks in his subsequent career, losing three of his last four bouts. On the other hand, “The Problem Child” is relatively inexperienced in professional boxing and is young and in good physical condition, raising concerns about the potential damage he could inflict on Tyson in the ring.
Jake revealed Tyson wanted the match to be professional
Despite calls from fans and critics to reconsider the clash due to the perceived risks, both Tyson and Paul are determined to move forward. Tyson has been constantly sharing training footage, displaying his trademark power and technique on pads to show off his fitness. However, doubts remain as to whether he will be able to withstand the rigors of a professional bout against a younger opponent. Jake has praised Tyson for his dedication to making their upcoming fight a success. In fact, Paul claimed that it was Tyson who proposed the change from an exhibition match to a fully sanctioned, professional fight, a decision that would mark the outcome on both of their professional records.
