WWE veteran John Cena had been romantically involved with several female stars in WWE, including AJ Lee, Nikki Bella and Mickie James. When Cena was dating Mickie James in real life, they were also paired on-screen in WWE during 2007-2008. However, despite their real-life romance, Mickie James recently revealed that she felt uncomfortable during romantic segments with her then-boyfriend Cena.

Mickie James recently appeared on Ring The Belle, where she revealed that the company knew about her relationship with John Cena at the time and decided to pair them on-screen, creating short segments to develop her character as an obsessive lover. The former WWE Women’s champion found those segments uncomfortable, as she felt that there was a lack of on-screen chemistry between her and Cena.
“I don’t really know where it was supposed to go or where it wasn’t supposed to go. But I think, obviously like we were talking or whatever at the time anyway, so I feel like it was one of those things. I mean, that was a well-known thing, right?” said Mickie. She further said, “Hey, we’ll try this on air. I don’t know if we actually had any on-screen chemistry. You know, when I look back, I’m like, ‘Emm.”
Both are married to different people now
The real-life romance between John Cena and Mickie James didn’t last long. Both stars ended the relationship shortly and focused on their respective careers, eventually becoming two of the most popular wrestling stars. Currently, both Mickie and John are happily married to different people.

Mickie is married to Friday night SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, who is also a professional wrestler. They started dating in 2011 and then in 2014, Aldis proposed to Mickie. The same year, they welcomed their daughter and in 2015, they got married.
On the other hand, when John Cena ended his long relationship with Nikki Bella in 2018, he soon started dating Shay Shariatzadeh, whom he met at a bar. The couple got married in 2020 and in 2022 they publicly announced their relationship. Next year will be the 16-time WWE champion’s last in the company, as he has announced his retirement from the in-ring WWE. 2025 will mark the beginning of Cena’s farewell tour.
