UFC Welterweight fighter Michael Page suffered his first loss in the promotion at UFC 303 at the hands of Machado Garry. The British fighter had a stellar UFC debut back in March when he dominated Kevin Holland at UFC 299 and scored a stunning victory. In the bout against Garry last Saturday, he gave him tough competition but lost most of the time when it came to grappling. After a close contest in two rounds, Ian Machado gained enough control in the final round and eventually got the unanimous win.
MVP accepted his defeat at UFC 303
Most people were disappointed by the result, with many fans scoring the bout for “Venom.” But Michael didn’t complain and accepted the defeat at UFC 303. He took to social media on Thursday and reflected on his loss. “MVP” stated that when defeat comes, you should accept it as a sign that your plans are not perfect. He further stated that people should rework on those plans and move forward once again towards the desired goal.
Prior to his UFC 303 loss, Page had only lost to the former interim champion Logan Storley and Douglas Lima via split decision loss and KO, respectively. MVP was expected to fight former champion Kamaru Usman for title contention with a win over Garry, but it appears Page has more work to do before getting another chance as a top contender.
Garry is looking forward to fighting Shavkat
On the other hand, Ian Machado Garry is undefeated with 15-0 and is looking onwards and upwards after retaining his spot in the rankings against Gary Page. On his way to a title shot, the Irish fighter is eyeing a fight with Shavkat Rakhmonov.
At the UFC 303 post-fight press conference, Garry stated that he doesn’t think that Usman wants to fight him. According to Garry, Usman wants an easy matchup. “The Future” further revealed that matchup with people like Shavkat excites him and called the Kazakh fighter extremely talented. Gary has huge respect for him, as he has trained with him. “I don’t want anyone else to beat him before me,” said Garry.
