Michael Chandler is still optimistic about his highly anticipated clash against Conor McGregor, despite recent setbacks. The fight was originally scheduled to take place at UFC 303, but McGregor was forced to withdraw from the matchup after suffering a toe injury during training. Recently, Chandler provided an update when he appeared at a UFC event.
Chandler reassured the fans
UFC President Dana White ruled out three potential dates, raising concerns among fans about the Irishman’s return. However, “Iron” has assured the MMA fans that an alternate date is being finalized.

While speaking to John Morgan, Chandler stated that he is hoping to come out of the break sooner than people think. The former Bellator champion said that he has done a lot of things other than fighting, which has allowed him to be patient. “We are not going to let him off the hook. Talks are happening between me and the UFC, I’m meeting with them tonight. I know Conor will be ready to come back soon, because it is just a pinky toe injury, so we’ll see,” said Chandler.
McGregor could return before the end of 2024
“The Notorious” has been out of action since suffering a leg injury during a bout with Dustin Poirier in 2021. McGregor was set to make his return at UFC 300 against Chandler. The former UFC champion has won only one of his last four bouts, which was a win against Donald Cerrone in 2020. Despite his recent injury, reports suggest that it is not serious and he could return before the end of 2024.
However, McGregor proved that his star power is still amazing when he broke the record for the highest gate before the fight was postponed. After McGregor pulled out of UFC 303, Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka stepped up and saved the main event with their rematch.
Chandler also stated that he is in deep mental pain as he watches the UFC 303 fight take place and he further thanked the fans for their support and encouragement. His assurance gives a ray of hope that the clash will happen soon.
