MI IPL 2024 Squad: The IPL 2024 auction ended on a high note & the big teams of the league were successful in getting some good picks during the process. All the teams came to the event with strategies in mind & the need to fill the void in their lineup. Most of the teams were successful in fulfilling their strategies & getting what they needed. One team that managed to get some good picks was Mumbai Indians.
Ahead of the IPL 2024 auctions, MI managed to grab the limelight by trading in Hardik Pandya for 12 crores & elevating him as the Captain of the team. Fans outrage was visible with many of them burning Mumbai Indians jerseys while most of them unfollowed them on Instagram. But that didn’t affect the team’s strategy as they entered the auction with a positive mindset & a purse of 17.75 crores. They had the task of filling eight spots which they managed to a great extent. Their focus on acquiring pacers was evident from the beginning.
They began the auction process with South Africa’s Gerald Coetzee. MI indulged in a bidding war with LSG & successfully acquired the services of Lucknow Super Giants for five crores. Their second buy was Dilshan Madhushanka who was a left-arm fast bowler from Sri Lanka. Their third major buy of the day was Shreyas Gopal a leg spin bowler from Karnataka whose services they acquired for 20 lakh. The thought of acquiring the services of Goapl is to have a backup leg-spin option given the experience of having Piyush Chawla in the squad.
MI made a surprise purchase of Nuwan Thushara

Then Mumbai Indians made a surprising move by acquiring the services of Nuwan Thushara. Sri Lankan speedster who is known as the replica of Lasith Malinga has been acquired by Mumbai Indians for 4.8 crore. Thusra has a clingy bowling action just like Malinga & Mumbai Indians made the point of buying his services to bolster their pace attack. Under the guidance of Malinga, there are chances of Thushara getting groomed into a lethal speedster.
Further MI went on to buy the services of Naman Dhir who is an uncapped Indian all-rounder for 20 lakhs. Then came Anshul Kamboj who became their sixth bowling acquisition whose services they acquired for 20 lakhs. Their other purchase of the day was Mohammad Nabi whom they acquired for a decent price of 1.5 crore.
Talking about their previous season’s performance, Mumbai Indians ended in fourth spot in the tournament with eight wins & six losses in 14 league stage fixtures they have played. However, MI was defeated by Titans in the second qualifier & where their IPL 2023 journey ended. Suryakumar Yadav was their highest run-scorer with 605 runs in 16 matches they have featured. On the bowling front, veteran Piyush Chawla emerged as the highest wicket-taker for the team with 22 wickets to his name.
