Mayweather Jr. vs. Pacquiao: In 2024, Manny Pacquiao plans to rematch Floyd Mayweather Jr., celebrating the ninth anniversary of their very successful “Fight of the Century.” When the boxing icons faced off in May 2015, it resulted in the highest-grossing bout in history.
With a unanimous decision, Mayweather prevailed, keeping the welterweight championships from Pacquiao and winning the WBO, WBC, and The Ring. The 45-year-old Pacquiao appears to have confirmed that the much-awaited rematch is planned for the following year, following years of conjecture.
Manny Pacquiao Declares a Rematch with Floyd Mayweather
Manny Pacquiao took centre stage and discussed the prospect of a rematch with Floyd Mayweather in 2024 at the request of RIZIN CEO Nobuyuki Sakakibara. Pacquiao sent Mayweather a two-word message indicating his preparedness: “I’m ready.” After expressing regret for a fight that had been called off, he hinted about a big battle that was slated to take place the next year without revealing his opponent right away.
“I’m so grateful that you invited me back. I apologise for our previous assurance that we will fight.”
Pacquiao finally stated that he was looking forward to a “big fight” in Japan with Floyd Mayweather after being prodded by Sakakibara. “I thought you didn’t want me to say that,” he acknowledged. “I can’t wait for that.”
Manny Pacquiao has been constantly pushing for a rematch ever since his devastating defeat against Floyd Mayweather. Pacquiao said he was hampered in the fight by a right shoulder issue, which is why he lost.
Before the bout, he had asked for permission to have an anti-inflammatory injection in his dressing room, but Nevada officials had turned him down. The Nevada Athletic Commission chairman blamed Pacquiao, saying the decision came about because he didn’t report the ailment sooner.
