Just days before, it was confirmed that Mayra Bueno Silva will face Raquel Pennington at UFC 297 in January for the vacant Bantamweight title following Amanda Dunes’ retirement from the promotion. But now social media is filled with the news of Bueno being suspended from the UFC.
Is Bueno Silva suspended from the promotion ?
A video was shared on X from Silva’s Instagram handle that said, “@MayraSheetara has announced via Instagram that she is apparently suspended for another violation. The UFC roster page on X clearly wrote “Fighter removed: Mayra Bueno Silva”. Fueling the speculation even more is the fact that previously ranked No. 3 Mayra Bueno can no longer be found on the current permutation of the official rankings on the UFC site. On the X post, someone even wrote that Silva was saying that her removal from the official bantamweight hierarchy was the result of a doping violation in the summer.
Sheetara responded via Instagram
Responding to the confusion caused by her video on X in a subsequent post on her official Instagram handle, where she was speaking in Portuguese, Silva briefly clarified things in English and said “Hi guys, this news about me being cut, it’s bullsh*t”. It looks like the status of the Raquel Pennington title fight is still developing as UFC Toronto and its targeted 2024 fight get closer.
The Brazilian is on a three fight winning streak
Bueno Silva is making quite a name for herself in the promotion after a 62-second ninja choke victory at the Contender Series five years ago. She is currently on a three-fight winning streak, which at one time was a four-fight winning streak. But her win over Holly Holm was overturned after a positive drug test and a no-contest.
