Haryana Steelers Coach Makes History with 100th Win in Pro Kabaddi League
After a thrilling 38-36 victory against Tamil Thalaivas at the SMS Indoor Stadium in Jaipur, Haryana Steelers head coach Manpreet Singh achieved a significant milestone in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL). With this win, Singh became the first head coach to reach 100 wins in the history of the league, solidifying his legacy in the sport.
During the post-match press conference, an elated Singh expressed his pride in this historic achievement, stating, “This is the first time a head coach has reached a hundred wins in the Pro Kabaddi League. It’s a matter of great pride for me that this record belongs to me. I’ve won the tournament as a player and as a coach, and now this. It feels amazing.”
Reflecting on the team’s recent success, Singh mentioned, “I’m really happy to be the first coach to achieve this. Hopefully, the other coaches soon achieve this feat too. I’m delighted that my boys have won four games on the trot in this Jaipur leg.”
Learning from the Best
Singh also shared insights into his learnings from former teammate and current Tamil Thalaivas head coach, Sanjeev Baliyan. Praising Baliyan’s coaching abilities, Singh recalled their time together at Patna Pirates where they secured the championship in Season 3. He mentioned, “He was a great player, and is still a good friend and a brilliant coach. I’ve learnt a lot from him and as I grow older, I’m learning a lot more. Even as a coach, he’s always so calm and that’s something I’m still learning from him.”
Furthermore, Singh highlighted the talent of young recruit Mayank Saini, emphasizing his importance to the team’s success. He stated, “Mayank has been training with us since the last couple of seasons. He would have been in our team last year, but we had spent our budget on Shadloui. This season, I fought with team management to ensure Mayank joins the team this season. Now, he’s our star.”
