Former WWE superstar Matt Riddle is confident that his journey in WWE is not over yet. Despite a checkered past with both WWE and UFC, he said in a recent interview that he feels that the door is open for him to return or will open at some point. Although he knows he didn’t do too well for himself in his first stint, WWE has a tendency to be forgiving and he thinks they will probably call him back.
Matt has been involved in several controversies
Professional wrestling journalist Steven Muehlhausen described Riddle as someone who was known for moving to his own tune. He recounted every incident in which Riddle had gotten into trouble. This includes altercations with wrestlers, drug failures and incidents with alcohol. Still, Riddle firmly believes that the door to a WWE return is still open. After being released from the UFC in 2013 due to testing positive for marijuana, Riddle moved to professional wrestling in 2014. He quickly made a name for himself on the independent circuit before signing with WWE. Riddle’s partnership with Randy Orton as part of the RK-Bro tag team was one of the most striking events of his career. Many believed that Riddle had the potential to become a big star.
However, Riddle has often been subject to controversy. From public feuds with Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg to personal issues including sexual assault allegations and failing drug tests, Riddle’s reputation in the Stamford-based promotion became complicated. After failing a second drug test in 2022, an incident at New York Airport in September 2023 ultimately led to his dismissal from WWE.
Riddle is optimistic about his WWE return
Despite so much history, Matt is optimistic about returning to WWE. He expressed his belief that his chances of returning to WWE are extremely high. He cited CM Punk’s controversial return to WWE after years of struggle as proof that anything is possible. Riddle admitted to his difficult moments and said he can be his own worst enemy because he doesn’t want to be like anyone else other than himself. The 38-year-old believes that with time, hard work and a focus on rebuilding his career on the independent scene, a return to WWE could still be in his future. But even if it never happens, Riddle says he wouldn’t mind it.
