Mark Henry was a significant part of WWE during his run in the company. However, he eventually left WWE to join AEW. Recently, in an interview with Forbes, Henry made the big revelation that he actually didn’t want to leave WWE. “The World’s Strongest Man” was hoping that the company would hire him in a non-wrestling position, but that did not happen.
Why did Henry leave WWE?
“I had a conversation with Vince and I wanted WWE to hire me,” said Henry. However, the former WWE chairman told him that there were already several people lined up for the position he wanted to take.
Furthermore, Henry did not have the experience needed to fulfill the position. Due to these reasons, “The Silverback” had no choice but to leave the company. However, before leaving, Henry light-heartedly told Vince, “You know, I’m going to kick your a**.”
Mark Henry made his WWE debut in 1996 and was part of the Stamford-based promotion for more than two decades before eventually leaving in 2021. “The World’s Strongest Man” contributed to various WWE eras and also won the World Heavyweight Championship in 2011. Henry was one of the most popular superstars in the promotion during his stint. His last appearance in WWE was on Raw in a backstage segment with Randy Orton.
Henry’s AEW run lasted only three years
On the other hand, Henry’s AEW run was a bit monotonous, as he made only a few appearances in three years. He joined AEW as a coach and member of the commentary team. But he appeared on AEW programming on only a few occasions. His contract expired in 2024 and Henry chose not to sign a new one.
Vince is no longer associated with WWE
There have been a lot of changes in WWE since Mark Henry left. The biggest one of them was that the former chairman, Vince McMahon, is no longer associated with the company. WWE was sold to Endeavor Group and McMahon is currently embroiled in a lawsuit with former employee Janel Grant. Triple H is now the new CEO and creative head of WWE. Under his leadership, WWE is moving on a new path and the WWE Universe is also quite happy with that. Mark Henry could potentially return to WWE now that the company is on a different path, which is appreciated by their current roster as well.
