Manchester City vs Chelsea: Preview
Manchester City form analysis
The Citizens’ form has been excellent lately. Remaining undefeated in five latest Premier League games. It began by beating Sheffield United 2-0 at home on December 30th through goals from Rodri and J. Álvarez. However, on January 13th City lost 3-2 away at Newcastle, despite leading through Bernardo Silva and K. De Bruyne – A. Isak and A. Gordon scored for Newcastle.
City returned to winning ways on February 1st, beating Burnley 3-1 at home with J. Álvarez and Rodri on target. Momentum continued on February 6th as City won 3-1 away at Brentford – P. Foden netted a hat-trick after City initially went behind. Most recently on February 10th, City earned a 2-0 home win over Everton thanks to a brace from E. Haaland. Overall, City have shown their usual dominant spells but also some uncharacteristic defensive lapses. Maintaining their attacking ruthlessness while tightening up at the back will be key in City’s title push.
Chelsea form analysis
Chelsea’s form has been decent in their newest Premier League run. The run began by winning 3-2 away at Luton Town on December 30th thanks to goals from C. Palme and N. Madueke. On January 13th, Chelsea beat local rivals Fulham 1-0 at home courtesy of a C. Palmer penalty. However, on February 1st Chelsea were beaten 4-1 at home by Liverpool, only scoring via C. Nkunku.
Things got worse on February 4th as Chelsea lost 4-2 at home to Wolves, going ahead through C. Palmer before conceding four including a Matheus Cunha hat-trick. Most recently on February 13th, Chelsea bounced back with a 3-1 away win at Crystal Palace – C. Gallagher scored twice after initially going behind, with E. Fernández adding a late third. Overall, Chelsea have struggled defensively but shown attacking promise. Finding greater solidity at the back could help convert their goal threat into better overall results.
Manchester City vs Chelsea: Prediction
3.6 and 3.8 are the average goals scored in the last five fixtures of city and Chelsea at home and away respectively. I do not expect these teams to deliver a low scoring contest.
The Citizens are back to their destructive best since the return of De Bruyne and are on a six match winning streak. Their opponents’ form with five losses in seven away fixtures would certainly make things easier for MCFC.
