Football Transfers: Tommy Doyle has joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on a permanent basis from Manchester City for a fee of just under £5 million.
The 22-year-old originally joined Wolves on loan last summer, with the option to buy included in the deal. With the reactivation of this condition, Doyle will become a full-time part of the Wolves club for the 2024/25 season.
Wolverhampton Wanderers sign promising talent for the future.
Doyle rose through Manchester City’s youth system, proving his talent and ability to lead. He captained the Under-18s to FA Youth Cup victory in 2020, indicating his potential as a rising star in English football.
Following making seven first-team appearances for City, Doyle wanted more consistent playing time, triggering his loan move to Wolves. Doyle has become an integral component of Wolves’ midfield setup this season, under manager Gary O’Neil.
Doyle has made 30 appearances in all competitions and scored one goal, revealing his adaptability and importance to the team’s success. The decision to make Doyle’s move permanent shows Wolves’ belief in his qualities and potential for growth.

Unlike an obligation, this move reflects Wolves’ deliberate decision to retain Doyle’s talents on a long-term basis, proving their commitment to developing a competitive squad for the future.
As part of the transfer agreement, Manchester City has included a sell-on clause, entitling them to 50 percent of any future transfer fee involving Doyle. Additionally, City has retained a buy-back option, demonstrating their recognition of Doyle’s talent and potential for growth.
Doyle’s transfer is set to become official on 1st July, following the conclusion of the current season. However, due to contractual obligations, he remains ineligible to feature for Wolves in their upcoming Premier League fixture against his former club, Manchester City, this weekend.
Throughout his career, Doyle has gained valuable experience through loan spells at various clubs, including Hamburg, Cardiff City, and Sheffield United.
His contributions have been instrumental in Sheffield United’s promotion and FA Cup semi-final appearance last season, further highlighting his ability to make an impact at different levels of competition.
As Doyle embarks on this new chapter in his career with Wolves, both clubs will be closely monitoring his progress, with anticipation of his continued growth and success on the footballing stage.
