Maldives row: With his recent visit to the Lakshadweep Islands, Prime Minister Narendra Modi caused unanticipated controversy and agitated the usually peaceful relations between India and the Maldives.
The spark was set by some Maldivian politicians’ disparaging remarks on social media about Prime Minister Modi and a comparison of Lakshadweep’s and the Maldives’ tourism potential.
Terms like “clown” and “puppet” were used in these now-deleted comments, which caused a diplomatic snag. India used official channels to voice its disapproval, but nationalist sentiment spiked on social media. Indian travellers’ calls to boycott the Maldives fanned the flames.

A number of former cricket players, including Venkatesh Prasad, Suresh Raina, and Sachin Tendulkar, have also come out against the remarks made by Maldivian officials. A video of MS Dhoni disclosing his desire to travel has surfaced, offering an unexpected turn to the story.
The Indian cricket player surprised everyone by saying that his home nation was his favourite place to visit. Citing the great diversity—from sun-kissed beaches to the peaks of the Himalayas—Kohli expressed a strong wish to first explore India before travelling abroad.
He remarked, “I travel a lot, but not always for vacations. To be quite honest, I haven’t taken many vacations. When I played cricket, I mostly travelled to countries where the sport was played. Since I was like, I came here to play cricket, I will play cricket and come back. I haven’t seen a lot. Not very enjoyable that way, then. My spouse is an avid traveller. We now intend to take a trip when we have some free time. However, our goal is to begin in India. There are so many breathtaking locations here. Before moving on to other locations, I would like to investigate them first.”
Undoubtedly, the India-Maldives spat has a negative impact, but MSD’s patriotism and the cricketers’ response provide a positive outlook. Their deeds serve as a reminder of the value of respect and the breathtaking beauty that is sometimes hidden within our borders.

Apart from this, fans have expressed interest in and generated some discussion about a widely circulated video that shows MS Dhoni smoking a hookah at a social gathering. In a video, Dhoni can be seen celebrating the New Year in Dubai with famous people like Kriti Sanon and Rishabh Pant while smoking a hookah.
Many were taken aback by the video, which showed him maintaining his physical fitness even after retiring and limited to IPL play. After its release, social media was ablaze with enthusiasm.
