Lyon vs Lille: Preview
Lyon form analysis
Les Gones have experienced mixed form recently, struggling for consistency across their last five league matches. They started this run with an important 1-0 away win at Monaco courtesy of a late Jeffinho strike. This was followed up by another narrow 1-0 home victory over Nantes through a goal from Lacazette just after the break. However, their form then took a turn for the worse in a 3-1 defeat away at Le Havre. Despite Lacazette quickly pulling a goal back, defensive errors cost Lyon dearly.
There was an incredible comeback at home to Rennes next, as going 3-0 down after 41 minutes, second half goals from Henrique and Lacazette made it 3-2 but proved not enough. Most recently at home against rivals Marseille it took another Lacazette goal to seal a tight 1-0 win. So while Lyon have shown they can grind out results, manager Pierre Sage will be concerned about conceding cheap goals and losing leads. Overall there are positives in attack but defensively Lyon must improve if they are to survive relegation.
Lille form analysis
Lille have found improved form in their last five league games. This run started with an impressive 1-1 home draw against PSG, as a late Jonathan David penalty earned Lille a point after falling behind to a Kylian Mbappe spot kick. However, they were unable to build momentum from that, losing 2-1 away at Strasbourg next time out.
Sandwiched between those games was a 3-0 home victory over Lorient, with goals from David,Cabella and Zhegrova. Next up Lille ground out a hard fought goalless draw at Montpellier, before returning home to demolish Clermont 4-0 this past weekend. Manager Paulo Fonseca seems to have added resilience to his attacking style of play, making Lille tough to beat. Overall, this improved form suggests Lille can look up the table with confidence rather than down.
