The Lucknow Super Giants have appointed former South African all-rounder Lance Klusner as their assistant coach for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.
Klusener will work alongside Justin Langer, who is the head coach of LSG. The franchise is hoping that the Australian-South African duo will help them win the silverware in the upcoming season.
Lucknow Super Giants, recently, shared the development in a statement, that read:
“Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have added South African legend Lance Klusener to their formidable roster of coaches for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.”
For the unversed, the South African cricketer is part of the Lucknow Super Giants team in the SA 20 League. In the Indian Premier League, he has coached Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians franchises, previously.
Furthermore, he also served as the head coach of Afghanistan’s national cricket team besides serving as a coach of Zimbabwe and South African teams in different capacities. It is worth mentioning that Lance Klusener is hailed as one of the finest all-rounders ever to play for South Africa in the history of the game.
Lance Klusener Career
Klusener played 49 Tests and 171 ODIs for South Africa, scoring 1906 and 3576 runs, respectively.
With the ball, he claimed 80 wickets in Tests and 192 wickets in one-day internationals. Batting lower down the order, Klusener was known for giving ideal finishes to the South African cricket team. He was also a pretty handy pace bowler, playing as the ideal foil to the fast-bowling duo of Alan Donald and Shaun Pollock.
In his debut Test against India, Lance Klusener returned with sensational bowling figures of 8 for 64.
Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants will kick off their IPL 2024 campaign with a clash against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, 24th March 2024 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium. LSG made its debut in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.
In their first very season, KL Rahul and Co. reached the playoffs but lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator clash. Skipper KL Rahul was ruled out of IPL 2023 midway through the tournament.
Krunal Pandya led the side in his absence and, once again, they made it to the knockouts but lost the Eliminator clash to Mumbai Indians. Heading into the new season, they would be keen to go all the way and win the silverware.
