Longest Served Squad Players of Barcelona. One of the most prosperous clubs in the world, Barcelona has had several iconic players wear the club’s jersey.
However, some of the club’s most significant individuals are those who have devoted a significant amount of time to it, giving the organization’s core a strong sense of stability and demonstrating remarkable consistency.
Lionel Messi has been incredible for Barca!
Due to their advanced age and the club’s financial limitations, some of Barca’s most stalwart members have left the organization.
In recent years, a number of players have left the team, including Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba, and many others.
A new generation of athletes has been created as a result, ones who can help the team get through its current transitional phase and realize its aspirations.
The team still contains seasoned and older players like Frenkie de Jong, Sergi Roberto, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen, but who has been a part of the longest? Check it out.
#4 Clement Lenglet (2018 – till date)
Clement Lenglet, a French defender, transferred to Blaugrana from Sevilla during the 2018 summer transfer window for €36 million.
Initially displaying promise, he was an undisputed starter while Samuel Umtiti was sidelined due to a protracted injury.
Fans became more frustrated with his defensive skills from 2019 to 2021, which was fueled by Barcelona’s disappointing UEFA Champions League performance.
Last season, the player went on loan to Tottenham since he had lost out to other center-backs in the team.
This does not, however, negate the fact that he is one of the squad members that has been around the longest.
There are rumors that he may depart the team soon because Barcelona is trying to find a way to make money by selling the player.
#3 Ousmane Dembele (2017 – till date)
In 2017, after Paris-Saint-Germain exercised Neymar’s €222 million release clause, Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele was brought in to fill the void.
The Frenchman has been a member of the team for the longest time, despite all of his ailments.
He was one of Barcelona’s top players last season and is undoubtedly skilled.
Given that he has officially accepted to terms to join PSG, we might not see him wearing Blaugrana colors anytime soon.
With 40 goals, Dembele also happens to be this team’s all-time leading scorer, demonstrating how far he has gone despite missing nearly 120 games due to injury.
#2 Marc-Andre ter Stegen (2014 – Till date)
Marc-Andre ter Stegen just took over as Barcelona’s second captain.
The more seasoned, older athletes with strong leadership skills are given this duty.
The German goalkeeper moved to Barcelona from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2014, and during his debut year with the team, he won the UEFA Champions League.
Ter Stegen, who continues to be among the finest players on the current team, has contributed significant saves over the years.
At Barcelona, where he will be spending his tenth season, he is at the prime of his career.
Last season, Ter Stegen won the La Liga Zamora Trophy for his outstanding work in leading the team to the La Liga championship by recording an incredible 26 clean sheets.
#1 Sergi Roberto (2010 – till date)
Sergi Roberto has been a part of the Barcelona team the longest.
The La Masia grad has experienced wonderful moments throughout the years, and this season, he is prepared to serve as the team’s captain and guide them.
In 2010, an 18-year-old Roberto made his official debut for Barcelona, but he remained in and out of the squad until 2013 when he formally joined the senior team.
His most well-known goal came during the 2016–17 Champions League Round of 16 when he scored in the 95th minute to help Barca defeat PSG 6–1 in the second leg.
The Blaugrana miraculously overcame a 4-0 deficit from the first leg.
Because of the positions he can play, Roberto is the team’s most adaptable player.
The Spaniard is capable of playing anywhere in the middle of the field, including as a full-back.
