Liverpool vs Leicester City: Preview
Liverpool form analysis
The Merseysideiders clinched a dramatic 2-1 win away at Newcastle, scoring twice late through Nunez to overturn Gordon’s opener. They built on that with an impressive 3-0 home victory over Aston Villa, dominant from start to finish. However, defensive issues surfaced in a 3-1 away win at Wolves, requiring a late own goal to seal the points despite going behind early.
Liverpool did respond by beating LASK 3-1 away in the Champions League group stage, coming from behind through Nunez, Diaz and Salah strikes. Most recently, they edged past West Ham 3-1 at home, with Nunez again on target along with Salah and Jota.
Overall, Liverpool have showcased their attacking threat, with Nunez settling in well alongside Salah and Diaz. However, there have been lapses defensively, conceding avoidable goals. But Jurgen Klopp seems to have shaped a vibrant frontline capable of troubling any opponent. If Liverpool can retain that attacking spark while tightening up at the back, they have an excellent chance of competing for major honors again this season. But restoring their defensive solidity is key.
Leicester City form analysis
Leicester began their League Cup campaign with a comfortable 2-0 win away at Tranmere, thanks to second half goals from Ndidi and Vardy. However, issues creating chances surfaced in a 0-1 home loss to Hull in the Championship.
Leicester responded excellently by hammering Southampton 4-1 away, clinical in attack through goals from Vardy, McAteer, Ndidi and Mavididi. They followed that up with an impressive 2-0 away win against Norwich, again showcasing their attacking talents. Most recently, Leicester edged past Bristol City 1-0 at home courtesy of a Vardy penalty.
Overall, Leicester have been inconsistent but shown real quality going forward. Vardy has rolled back the years in attack, while new signing Mavididi looks a real threat. However, the loss to Hull demonstrated Brendan Rodgers’ side can still struggle to break teams down. But the wins over Southampton and Norwich highlighted Leicester’s potential when focused. If Rodgers can add greater consistency to their performances, Leicester have an excellent chance of mounting a promotion push this term.
