Liverpool vs Fulham: Preview
Liverpool form analysis
Liverpool’s form has been getting better and better under Jurgen Klopp. On October 21st they beat local rivals Everton 2-0, with Mohamed Salah’s late brace sealing the win. This was followed by a confident 3-0 victory away at Nottingham Forest, with goals from Diogo Jota and Darwin Núñez. However, Liverpool were held to a surprise 1-1 draw away at Luton Town in the FA Cup on November 5th, with Luis Díaz’s stoppage time leveller sparing their blushes.
The Reds quickly bounced back by dispatching Brentford 3-0, inspired again by a double from Salah. Most recently on November 25th, league leaders Manchester City left Anfield with a point after a tightly contested 1-1 draw – Erling Haaland’s opener cancelled out by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s equaliser. With confidence restored and the likes of Salah, Núñez and Diaz hitting form, Liverpool once again look capable of challenging at the top this season. Tightening up defensively will be key, but Klopp seems to have turned a corner.
Fulham form analysis
Fulham made an impressive start back in the Premier League, but their form has dipped recently under Marco Silva. On October 7th, Fulham beat Sheffield United 3-1 at Craven Cottage, before suffering a 2-0 loss away at Tottenham two weeks later. They quickly bounced back though, holding high-flying Brighton to a creditable 1-1 home draw on October 29th thanks to João Palhinha’s second half leveller.
However, consecutive defeats followed – losing 1-0 at home to Manchester United after conceding late on, before a 3-1 loss away at Aston Villa, Raul Jimenez’s goal a mere consolation. Overall Fulham have played some progressive attacking football, with the likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic, Willian and captain Tom Cairney all impressing. But defensively there are clear weaknesses for Silva to address if Fulham are to sustain their early season momentum. Finding the right balance between attack and defence will be key to sealing a mid-table.
