Liverpool vs Arsenal: Preview
Liverpool form analysis
The Reds have produced some inconsistent Premier League performances recently, recording three wins, and two draws from their last five matches. On 25th November the Reds drew 1-1 away to title rivals Manchester City, equalizing late on through Trent Alexander-Arnold after falling behind to an Erling Haaland strike. Liverpool then edged past Fulham 4-3 at home in a thriller which saw them lead, trail and equalize before eventually claiming victory. However, defensive frailties were still evident as they leaked three goals.
The Reds looked more assured in their next outing, securing a hard-fought 2-0 win away at Sheffield United thanks to headers from Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai. Last time out Liverpool left it late yet again, coming from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 away from home after Mohamed Salah and Harvey Elliott struck in the last 15 minutes to overturn Jordan Ayew’s first half penalty. Most recently though, Liverpool failed to capitalize on chances in a 0-0 home draw with Manchester United. Overall, Jurgen Klopp’s men have struggled to control games but are doing enough to grind out results, with their powers of recovery and perseverance being tested week after week so far this season.
Arsenal form analysis
Arsenal have experienced fluctuating fortunes in recent Premier League games, with two wins, one draw and two defeats from their last five matches. On 25th November, the Gunners left it late to edge past Brentford 1-0 away from home thanks to a Kai Havertz winner. Mikel Arteta’s side followed that up with a 2-1 home victory over Wolves, led by first half goals from Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard before the visitors pulled one back late on. However, Arsenal then had to come from behind three times before beating Luton 4-3 in a dramatic EFL Cup tie.
Their league form subsequently suffered a dip as they fell 1-0 away to Aston Villa, with the only goal coming after just 7 minutes. The Gunners responded last time out by dispatching Brighton 2-0 at home, sealed by second half strikes from Gabriel Jesus and Havertz. Overall, Arsenal’s form has fluctuated recently, highlighting both their free-flowing attack and vulnerability at the back. Maintaining intensity and focus for 90 minutes remains inconsistent, and improvements will be needed if they are to sustain their title challenge.
