But the best part happens when the fighter is knocked out in just a few seconds, and the fight is remembered for years. In this article, we will tell you about some of the historic knockouts that MMA fans will never forget.
Top 10 Fastest Knockouts
#10 Gray Maynard (0:09) vs. Joe Veres
On September 19, 2007, at UFC Fight Night 11 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Gray Maynard stepped into the Octagon for the second time since his tenure on The Ultimate Fighter. There was a lot of hype behind Maynard’s name, and he was opening the card in a fight with UFC newcomer Joe Verres. As the match began, Maynard backed his opponent and, in only five seconds, threw a left hook that knocked out Verres. After this, he also connected on some ground strikes and made history with one of the fastest knockouts in UFC history.
#9 Leon Edwards (0:08) vs. Seth Baczynski
Leon Edward’s first ever UFC bout was against Seth Baczynski, which was held on April 11, 2015. As the fight began, it was Baczynski who showed aggression by throwing blows to the body and head. Nevertheless, Leon responded with a massive overhand that put Baczynski out. He ended it with a ground-and-pound shot within the first eight seconds of the fight.
#8 Makwan Amirkhani (0:08) vs. Andy Ogle
Makwan Amirkhani had a memorable UFC debut on January 24, 2015, in Stockholm, Sweden. He faced UFC veteran Andy Ogle, who was coming off a four-fight losing streak and fighting for his job. At the start of the fight, Makwan quickly attacked Ogle and landed a flying knee that staggered “The Little Axe” . Then Amirkhani hit a brutal uppercut that dropped him, and he finished him off with ground and pound only eight seconds into the fight. This was also Ogle’s last professional fight.
#7 Todd Duffee (0:07) vs. Tim Hague
In 2009, Todd Duffee was set to make his UFC debut against the late Tim Hague. As the bout began, commenters were talking about how the fight would depend on who landed first. This is exactly what happened, as only two seconds into the fight, Duffee landed a big right hand that dropped Hague, and he finished the fight with ground and pound, knocking the Canadian completely out.
#6 Chan Sung Jung (0:07) vs. Mark Hominick
In 2011, on December 10, Chan Sung Jung opened the main card in Toronto, Canada. He called out Hominick, so it was considered a great fight as Mark’s last fight was against Jose Aldo for the UFC featherweight belt. “The Korean Zombie” backed his words and went out, touched the gloves, and Hominick missed a big right hand. Jung then dropped him with a punch, and heavy ground and pounding began even before the referee arrived.
#5 Don Frye (0:08) vs. Thomas Ramirez
Don Frye had a great early fight back when the UFC was still doing one-night tournaments. On February 16, 1996, at UFC 8, Frye fought Thomas Ramirez to start the tournament. Ramirez was considered a heavyweight KO performer, but in this fight, it didn’t help him. Instead, to start the fight, Frye lunged at Ramirez early and then landed a right hand that knocked Ramirez out. After this, Frye went on to win the entire UFC 8 tournament.
#4 James Irvin (0:08) vs. Houston Alexander
James Irvin faced Houston Alexander on April 2, 2008, in Colorado. Alexander was looking to bounce back from his first loss. As the fight began, the fighter touched gloves, sparred around, and Irvin then threw a superman punch that connected well and dropped Houston out. He then smashed two ground-and-pound shots to knock him out in just eight seconds. Irvin then headlined the UFC show because he lost his next fight to Anderson Silva.
#3 Ryan Jimmo (0:07) vs. Anthony Perosh
The late Ryan Zimmo’s seven-second knockout is still one of the fastest in UFC history. At UFC 149, Jimmo made his debut against Anthony, who was on a three-fight winning streak. As the bell rang, both fighters touched gloves, and then only one punch was enough to end the fight because a big overhand by Jimmo landed on Perosh’s chin and knocked him out.
#2 Duane Ludwig (0:06) vs. Jonathan Goulet
Duane Ludwig has held the record for the fastest knockout in UFC history for more than thirteen years. On January 16, 2006, Ludwig fought Jonathan Goulet; this fight was Ludwig’s return to the UFC. To start the fight, both fighters squared off, and the first punch thrown by Lugwig landed squarely on Goulet’s chin, knocking him out in just six seconds.
#1 Jorge Masvidal (0:05) vs. Ben Askren
This was definitely the best knockout in UFC history, and also the fastest. At UFC 239, Masvidal faced Askren. The “Funky” picked up a win in his UFC debut a few months earlier against Robbie Lawler and was expected to get a title shot if he won this fight. However, to start the fight, Masvidal stammered, and as Askren ran out to the center looking for a takedown, Jorge hit a flying knee that knocked Askren out. This win catapulted Masvidal to superstar status; on the other hand, Askren was handed his first loss.
