Lincoln City vs West Ham: Preview
Lincoln City form analysis
The Imps continued their League Cup campaign with a 0-0 draw away against Sheffield United, progressing on penalties. They then drew 1-1 away at Bristol Rovers in the league, with Jackson putting them ahead before Grant’s late equalizer. Lincoln earned another point at home to Carlisle next, coming from behind through Hamilton after going behind to Plange’s early goal. However, defensive issues surfaced in a 0-2 defeat away at Derby in the cup. Most recently, Lincoln lost 1-2 away at Portsmouth, taking an early lead through Adelakun before goals from Lane and Poole saw them beaten.
Overall, Lincoln have been solid defensively aside from the loss at Derby, keeping 3 clean sheets in 5 games. However, a lack of attacking spark has been apparent, scoring just 3 times. Turning draws into wins is key for manager Mark Kennedy. The result against Sheffield United was encouraging, but Lincoln need to pose more of an offensive threat. Adding creativity and goals is vital for Lincoln to sustain a promotion push this season after their playoff defeat last term.
West Ham form analysis
West Ham began with an impressive 3-1 home win over Brighton, clinical in attack through goals from Ward-Prowse, Bowen and Antonio. They backed that up by edging past Luton 2-1 away, with Bowen and Zouma on target. However, defensive issues surfaced in a 1-3 home loss to Man City, caught out on the break despite Ward-Prowse putting them ahead.
West Ham did respond by beating TSC 3-1 at home in the Europa League, coming from behind through Kudus and Soucek strikes. Most recently though, they lost 1-3 away at Liverpool, with only Bowen’s goal to show for their efforts.
Overall, it’s been an inconsistent start by West Ham as David Moyes integrates several new signings. They’ve showcased their attacking threat, led by the creativity of Ward-Prowse. But defensively there have been lapses, conceding soft goals at times. The win over Brighton demonstrated their quality, but more discipline and concentration is required, especially against the league’s elite sides. If Moyes can tighten them up at the back, West Ham have the firepower to enjoy another strong season.
