Leipzig vs Bayern Munich: Preview
Leipzig form analysis
Die Roten Bullen began with a disappointing 2-3 loss away at Leverkusen despite goals from Olmo and new signing Openda. They responded impressively by hammering Stuttgart 5-1 at home, sparked by a Simons brace. Leipzig then earned an excellent 3-0 away win at Union Berlin, with summer additions Simons and Sesko both scoring.
Defensive solidity was on show in a comfortable 3-0 home victory over Augsburg, never looking troubled. Most recently, Leipzig ground out a key 1-0 away win at Gladbach thanks to Werner’s second half strike.
Overall, it’s been a positive start to life under new manager Marco Rose after last season’s struggles. Leipzig have showcased their attacking potential, led by new recruits like Simons. Rose has also made Leipzig much harder to beat, keeping three clean sheets. The win at Union Berlin demonstrated Leipzig can still compete with the Bundesliga’s best when focused. A title challenge could be on the cards this term despite it being a transition season.
Bayern Munich form analysis
Bayern began with a tight 2-1 home win over Gladbach thanks to goals from Sane and new signing Tel. However, defensive issues surfaced in a 2-2 draw at home to Leverkusen, throwing away a lead twice. Bayern bounced back impressively by beating Man United 4-3 away in a Champions League thriller, with Kane netting twice.
They followed that up with their best display yet, hammering Bochum 7-0 at home led by a Kane hat-trick. Most recently, Bayern eased past third-tier Preußen Münster 4-0 in the cup, again showcasing their array of goalscorers.
Overall, it’s been a typically dominant start by Bayern under Julian Nagelsmann, showcasing their phenomenal attacking talents. Summer signing Kane has settled in seamlessly, forming a prolific partnership with Sane. However, uncharacteristic defensive lapses have crept in at times.
If Tuchel can iron these out, Bayern look primed to retain their Bundesliga crown this season and challenge strongly for Champions League glory. But restoring their typical defensive solidity is crucial if Bayern are to meet their lofty standards and expectations this term after the blip against Leverkusen.
