Leicester vs Birmingham City: Preview
Leicester form analysis
The Foxes’ recent form has shown promising attacking talent but defensive vulnerabilities that have led to inconsistent results. On December 27th they could only manage a 1-1 away draw at Ipswich Town despite leading through Stephy Mavididi. Three days later it was a solid 2-0 win away over Cardiff City with goals from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and James Justin. That strong performance carried over on New Year’s Day as Leicester earned an emphatic 4-1 home victory against Huddersfield Town.
A brace from Nathan Opoku and goals from Ricardo Pereira and Mavididi highlighted Leicester’s attacking prowess. However defensive issues reemerged on January 13th in a 3-1 loss away to Coventry City, despite Dewsbury-Hall opening the scoring from the penalty spot. Most recently on January 23rd Leicester struggled again at the back in a 1-1 home draw against Ipswich Town, conceding a late equalizer after a Luke Davis own-goal had put them ahead. So while Leicester has shown strong scoring form from a variety of attacking options. Shoring up defensive weaknesses will be key to translating that attack into more consistent positive results.
Birmingham City form analysis
Birmingham City’s form has been inconsistent recently, mixing disappointing losses with some encouraging attacking performances. On December 26th they fell 3-1 at home to Stoke City despite new signing Josh Stansfield getting a debut goal. A 0-0 home draw against Bristol City on December 30th showed some defensive improvement before a poor New Year’s Day loss away to Leeds United.
However, Birmingham rebounded quickly by earning a battling 2-2 home draw against Swansea four days later with Stansfield and French striker Souleymane Dembele both scoring. That gritty performance carried over away to Stoke on January 20th as goals from Stansfield and Juninho Bacuna sealed an impressive 2-1 comeback victory. While defensive issues have led to heavy losses at times including the 3-0 defeat to Leeds. Building defensive cohesion and cutting out mistakes could help talented young attackers of the team to translate their potential into more wins.
