Leeds United vs Rotherham: Preview
Leeds United form analysis
After a difficult first half of the season, Leeds United have found much improved form in 2024 so far. They started the year with an excellent 3-0 home win over Birmingham thanks to goals from Bamford, James and Summerville. Their fine form continued as they dispatched Cardiff 3-0 away from home, with Bamford, James and deadline day signing Rutter all on target again in a dominant display.
Leeds then came from behind to beat Preston 2-1 courtesy of James’ equalizer and Piroe’s late penalty after Keane had put Preston ahead early on. Their fourth straight win came against Norwich, winning 1-0 at home through another Bamford goal. Most recently, Leeds’ winning run came to an end but they battled to continue their unbeaten 2024 with a hard-fought 1-0 victory away at Bristol City. Gnonto scored the winner in a tight game. Overall, after a difficult first half of the campaign, Leeds have rediscovered their confidence in 2024, going five unbeaten and winning four in a row prior to the Bristol City win.
Rotherham form analysis
Rotherham United began 2024 with back-to-back draws against Sunderland (1-1) and Blackburn (2-2). Despite leading in both games through goals from Clucas and Morrison respectively, late equalizers from Clarke and Eaves saw them drop points. Rotherham then suffered narrow 0-1 defeat and a 1-1 draw in their next two games, first at home to Stoke courtesy of Baker’s winner, before drawing away with Middlesbrough after Cafú’s second half strike.
Most recently, Rotherham suffered another single goal defeat, losing 0-2 at home against Southampton. Goals from Bednarek and Armstrong saw the Saints claim a comfortable victory and condemn Rotherham to a fourth game without a win in 2024. Overall, while competitive in all games with tight margins, Rotherham are lacking a clinical edge to turn positive performances into wins. Scoring just three goals in their last four matches highlights issues in attack. If this continues, they are in danger of finishing bottom of the league.
Leeds United vs Rotherham: Prediction
It will be a massive task for any team to hand Leeds United their first league loss of the season at home. It is extremely unlikely that a team bottom of the Championship and winless in 27 away Championship fixtures doing it.
