Lecce vs Fiorentina: Preview
Lecce form analysis
I Giallorossi ended 2023 with a 1-0 home loss to Atalanta after failing to contain Ademola Lookman’s second half strike. Their first match of 2024 was a decent 1-1 home draw against Cagliari. Valentin Gendrey put Lecce ahead before substitute Gabriele Oristanio equalized late on. However, a 1-0 home loss to Lazio followed as Lecce struggled to create chances and Felipe Anderson’s goal proved decisive. A 3-0 thrashing away at Juventus came next as Dusan Vlahovic’s brace after an hour put the game beyond doubt before Gleison Bremer added gloss late on.
Most recently, a 2-1 loss away at Genoa despite Nikola Krstović’s opener made it three straight defeats in 2024.Lecce have found it difficult to balance defensive solidity with consistent attacking threat. At their best, they can breach defenses. But leakage at the back has repeatedly undermined their good spells in matches. For Roberto D’Aversa, tightening up defensively is crucial while hoping his forwards can provide enough goals to keep Lecce clear of relegation. Finding the right balance in performance could be the difference between safety and the drop.
Fiorentina form analysis
Fiorentina ended 2023 with a solid 1-0 away win at Monza thanks to Lucas Beltrán’s early goal. A similarly narrow 1-0 home victory over Torino followed as Lorenzo Ranieri struck the winner late on. However, back-to-back draws with Sassuolo and Udinese opened 2024. Against Sassuolo, Fiorentina struggled in attack and conceded to a Andrea Pinamonti goal before holding on for a point. At home against Udinese they trailed from a Sandi Lovrić opener before Beltrán equalized only for Florian Thauvin to restore the Udinese lead. An 87th minute M’Bala Nzola penalty saved another draw. Most recently, Fiorentina suffered a disappointing 1-0 home loss to Inter after failing to threaten much offensively besides a disallowed Jonathan Ikoné goal.
Overall, Fiorentina’s form shows a talented side still searching for the right balance in performances. They struggle for consistency and have tended to concede untimely goals to drop points despite decent overall play. For Vincenzo Italiano, making Fiorentina tougher to beat would go a long way in helping them push for Europe. The ability is there but they must improve in defense.
