Las Palmas vs Granada: Preview
Las Palmas form analysis
The club began with a creditable 1-1 draw at home against Mallorca in their opener, going ahead through Viera’s penalty. They followed up with a narrow 0-1 loss away at Valencia, edged out by a late Pepelu penalty.
A goalless home draw with Real Sociedad came next, earning a good point against tough opposition. However, Las Palmas suffered late heartbreak away at Girona, losing 0-1 to a late Portu strike. Most recently, they lost 0-1 away at Sevilla, undone by a Lukebakio goal as they failed to create much.
Overall, Las Palmas have been competitive so far on their La Liga return, making games tight against superior teams. The draws with Mallorca and Sociedad show they can match good sides. But a lack of attacking spark has been an issue, scoring just once in five games.
Creating more chances must be the priority to avoid relegation. Defensively Las Palmas have been organized and tough to beat though. Building on these foundations gives them a good survival chance if their attack starts clicking.
Granada form analysis
Granada began the season with a 1-3 home loss to Atletico Madrid, despite Samu briefly equalizing. A 0-2 home defeat to Rayo Vallecano followed as Granada struggled in attack. They earned their first win by beating Mallorca 3-2 in an entertaining game, with goals from Rubio, Zaragoza and Uzuni. But defensive issues resurfaced in a 3-5 home thrashing by Real Sociedad. Most recently, Granada lost 2-4 at home to Girona in another poor defensive display.
Overall, Granada have struggled defensively, conceding 14 goals in their five games so far. Scoring hasn’t been a major issue with the likes of Uzuni and Boyé contributing goals. But they have been far too open at the back, incapable of keeping clean sheets.
Manager Paco López must tighten up defensively and instill more discipline if Granada are to avoid a relegation battle. The wins over Mallorca and Atletico show their attacking potential. But sorting out their defensive problems is crucial for Granada this season.
