Agar’s untimely injury, confirmed by scans after he returned home from South Africa for the birth of his child, prompted the selectors to rethink their strategy. Rather than opting for another frontline spinner, they’ve decided to enlist Labuschagne’s batting prowess. The versatile Glenn Maxwell’s recent four-wicket haul in Rajkot has provided some relief as he can serve as a secondary spinner alongside Adam Zampa. However, this move comes with a certain degree of uncertainty due to Maxwell’s ongoing recovery from a broken leg sustained last year.
