South African young bowling sensation Kwena Maphaka is making waves in the cricketing world with his outstanding bowling display in the ongoing Under-19 World Cup. He scripted history on Friday after becoming the first-ever bowler to pick three five-wicket hauls in the history of the Under-19 World Cup.
The Rising Bowling Sensation- Kwena Maphaka
Kwena Maphaka is a left-arm fast bowler who can swing and can extract that extra bounce from the surface. He picked his first five-wicket haul in the Under-19 World Cup against West Indies on 19th January.
Maphaka returned with an outstanding bowling display of 5 for 38 in 9.1 overs and helped his team restrict West Indies to 254 while defending a total of 285 runs. He bagged the Player of the Match award for his outstanding performance.
The left-arm seamer picked his second five-wicket haul against Zimbabwe. He picked five wickets for 34 runs in 10 overs as Zimbabwe were bundled out for just 102 runs. In reply, the Proteas chased down the total in just 13.3 overs.
South Africa played their last super-six game against Sri Lanka on Friday at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom. Batting first, the hosts posted a 232-run total at the end of the first innings. In reply, Sri Lanka were bundled out for just 113, courtesy of another wonderful spell from Kwena Maphaka.
The 17-year-old picked his third five-wicket haul in the second innings and bowled Sri Lanka out for just 113. With that spell, he became only the first bowler ever to pick three five-wicket hauls in the history of the Under-19 World Cup.
Kwena Maphaka is currently topping the wickets chart with 18 wickets to his name in five matches at an outstanding average of 9.56.
India, SA, Australia, Pak qualify for U19 WC semi-finals
It is worth mentioning that the likes of India, South Africa, Australia and Pakistan are the four teams that have qualified for the semi-finals in the Under-19 World Cup 2024. India is playing against South Africa in the first semi-final today. At the time of writing, South Africa has managed to score 55 runs for the loss of two wickets in 10.1 overs.
Lhuan-dre Pretorius is out there batting on 38 off 37. Richard Seletswane has just come out in the middle. Both the wickets have been picked by Raj Limbani thus far. He has bowled 5 overs for 23 runs and has two wickets to his name.
