The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) took the front stage and revealed the 17-man roster that would travel to Sri Lanka to play in the premier tournament, the Asia Cup 2023. When the 20-year-old recently made his international debut in the five-match T20I series against the West Indies, he impressed with his efforts. Varma was named to the Asia Cup roster, but it is yet unknown if he will play for India in the competition, which is set to start on August 30.
Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth spoke up after learning of his selection for the team. According to Srikkanth, Varma needs to make his ODI debut before the World Cup rather than during it. It might be difficult for Varma to make the team with KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer back in the Indian lineup.

On his YouTube channel, Kris said, “Play Tilak Varma in the ODI series before introducing him to a significant competition. Tilak Varma shows potential. He has a great opportunity at the Asia Cup. During the T20I series against the West Indies, we saw some great promise in both performances and temperament. This will increase his visibility.”
In addition, Srikkanth lavished Tilak Varma with adulation. Srikkanth believed that despite his talent, the Indian team needed to develop him correctly and that he should play a few ODIs before being selected for the squad for the 2017 ODI World Cup. “Tilak is a wonderful player with tremendous potential, but he has to play a few one-day series before being included in the World Cup squad. He needs to be properly trained,” Srikkanth stated.
For the unversed, Tilak Varma is a left-handed batsman and part-time off-spin bowler who competes for India in international cricket. On August 3, 2023, against the West Indies, he made his debut for India at the international level. He competes for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League and Hyderabad in domestic cricket.
