The championship event will take place on Thursday, February 27th, starting at 9am PT / 12pm ET / 6pm CET / 10:30pm IST and will last for 4 hours. The format of the event is unique and exciting, designed to showcase your skills in various chess disciplines.
Participants will start with a new Chess.com account (make sure to select the ‘beginner’ option) and will have four hours to race their rating up from a starting rating of 500 in each of the four variants – , , , and. At the end of the event, if your average overall rating is higher than your competitors, you will be crowned the World Champion and win a share of the $8,000 prize fund.

The prize breakdown is as follows:
Overall (peak rating in all four events)
- 1st Place: $2,000 & the title of World Champion
- 2nd Place: $1,250
- 3rd Place: $650
- 4th Place: $400

Top Women

- 3rd Place: $75
The highest peak rating in each of the four individual categories will also win an additional prize.

How to Participate
If you’re interested in participating, follow these steps:
- Create a new Chess.com account and refrain from playing any games on it before the event.
- Complete the registration form with your account name and main Chess.com account for reference.
- Show up at the start of the event and stream your games to be eligible for prizes.
Prize Eligibility
To be eligible for prizes, you must stream your participation with a webcam and microphone. Prize eligibility is also dependent on which platforms you stream.
To ensure eligibility, make sure to follow these guidelines:
- “KICK WORLD CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP” must be in the stream title
- Stream your games with your board and yourself visible on stream
- Stream at least 3 out of 4 hours of the event
- Save your VODs for a minimum of 14 days publicly
All play and final results will be subject to review by Chess.com’s Fair Play team, with violations resulting in disqualification. Team Hikaru and KICK reserve the right to remove individuals from prize eligibility at their discretion.
