Khabib Nurmagomedov has recently sent a heartfelt message for Tony Ferguson. Both fighters were long-time rivals in the UFC. However, despite being scheduled to fight on several occasions, the two never shared the Octagon and instead recorded a number of canceled bouts in the sport. While “The Eagle” retired in 2020, Ferguson is still an active fighter in the promotion.
Unfortunately, Ferguson is nothing now of what he was during his peak. Recently, at UFC Abu Dhabi, “El Cucuy” faced Michael Chisea and looked completely miserable during the fight. Ferguson suffered a first-round rear choke naked submission defeat. This loss has further fuelled the speculation of Ferguson retiring.
Khabib wished Tony a happy retirement
UFC CEO Dana White has been talking about Tony Ferguson’s retirement for a long time. Even before the UFC Abu Dhabi matchup, White said that Ferguson should retire after the event. Showing similar sentiments, Khabib also wished Ferguson a happy retirement life. The former UFC champion commented on Ferguson’s eighth consecutive loss and said that it was not a surprising outcome considering that he is 40 years old.
“I just want to wish him all the best. His life is just beginning because he is just 40 years old. He just finished his MMA career. Now it is going to be a different life. A much better life,” said Khabib.
However, Ferguson doesn’t seem ready to retire just now. After his recent loss, “El Cucuy” hinted at his possible retirement from the promotion, but moments later he said that he is still not done with the sport. Tony kept only his one glove down in the Octagon. There is no further reaction from Nurmagomedov on Ferguson’s decision.
Khabib is dealing with many troubles
Currently, Khabib himself has to deal with a lot of troubles. This all began when terrorist attacks on churches and other religious places started in Dagestan. An in-depth investigation found that a member of ‘Eagle MMA’ was also one of the vandals. This led to the launch of a full-fledged investigation of Khabib’s gym.
Khabib has also been accused of tax evasion by the Russian government. The Dagestani fighter still has to pay $3.3 million to the Russian government. It remains to be seen how Khabib gets out of this mess.
