Kavya Maran Opens Up On Sunrisers’ SA20 Franchise Win
Sunrisers Eastern Cape defeated Durban’s Super Giants by an overwhelming 89 runs on Saturday night at Newlands, securing back-to-back SA20 titles. The Sunrisers won the group stage and then performed flawlessly in the championship game. With Dan Worrall (2/15) and Ottniel Baartman (2/17) contributing to the victory, the Sunrisers bowling team was as effective as it has been all season. Marco Jansen led the way with 5/30.
The Sunrisers amassed a massive 204/3 in 20 overs thanks to half-centuries from Tom Abell (55 in 34 balls, eight fours, and two sixes) and Tristan Stubbs (56* in 30 balls, four boundaries, and three sixes), as well as contributions from Jordan Hermann and captain Aiden Markram (42 apiece).

In the Sunrisers’ innings, partnerships were vital. Following the early loss of Dawid Malan, Hermann and Abell put up a 90-run partnership for the second wicket to bring up the winning score.
Keshav Maharaj, the captain of the Durban Super Giants, answered with a double-wicket over that removed both of the set hitters, Hermann and Abell.
Markram and Stubbs built the innings before exploding towards the end with 98 runs off 55 balls, showing the Sunrisers had much more in store.
This season, the Sunrisers’ bowling unit has been at its best, and their seamers gave excellent performances on the evening.
After Dan Worrall (2/15) removed Quinton de Kock (3) to set the tone early on, Marco Jansen struck twice in the fourth over to remove Jon-Jon Smuts (1) and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (0), leaving the Super Giants reeling at 7/3.
Ottniel Baartman (2/17) supplied the game-winning moment as Wiaan Mulder attempted a quickfire 38 in 22 balls, which included three fours and two sixes, in an attempt to mount a comeback.
Though he had already dismissed Matthew Breetzke for a listless eighteen in twenty-seven balls, it was his inswinger that trapped the dangerous Heinrich Klaasen on the opening ball on the pads that ended the match.
With the Super Giants down 63/5, Jansen (5/30) had an opportunity to close the gap and complete the back-to-back wins by charging through. In just 17 overs, DSG was bowled out for just 115 runs.
For Jansen, who took the maiden SA20 title, hit a six last season, and once more claimed the final wicket this year, it was an unforgettable moment.
So, this was all about Kavya Maran’s happy moment as Sunrisers’ SA20 franchise lifts back-to-back titles.
