Wrestling matches between WWE superstars are choreographed by professionals, but the injuries they suffer while performing the stunts are very real. There have been several examples of superstars like Edge, Triple H, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton who went through a painful phase in their careers after sustaining injuries during matches. Wrestlers like Steve Austin and Bret Hart had their careers ended because of the severity of their injuries. WWE Hall of Famer Kane also once suffered an injury that forced him to be hospitalized immediately after a match.
Kane about his severe injury
Kane recently recalled a gruesome injury he suffered when a former WWE superstar suplexed him off the top rope during a Triple Threat match between him Shawn Michaels and Big Show.
“The most painful thing had happen to me was The Big Show, who suplexed me. At the time, I was a solid 310 pounds or so and of course, he is over 400 pounds. So the physics do not always work in your favor, and it did not on this night,” said Kane.
“The Big Red Monster” further revealed that the impact of the collision was so severe that it knocked the wind out of him. He felt like his kidneys got hit with a baseball bat. However, despite the severe pain, Kane managed to finish the match before getting rushed to the hospital, where he underwent an MRI. “They did an MRI and there was no damage. I think my muscles had just seized up, so a couple of days later, I was fine, just a little sore,” said Kane.
The Big Red Machine had a stellar WWE career
Kane’s WWE career began in 1995 and his masked horror-themed gimmick, which symbolized fire, was very successful. His WWE storyline with The Undertaker, which depicted them as half-brothers and the sons of late Paul Bearer, received widespread praise from wrestling fans. Kane remained a dominant figure in WWE during the late 1990s and early 2000s. During his tenure in the company, Kane became a three-time World Champion and a 12-time WWE Tag Team Champion. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2021.
