Juventus vs Inter Milan: Preview
Juventus form analysis
Juve entered the campaign under Max Allegri looking to regain domestic dominance. They started positively by beating rivals Torino 2-0 in the Derby della Mole, with new signing Gatti opening his account. This was built on with an accomplished 1-0 away win against AC Milan, as Locatelli netted the winner against his former club. Juventus’ ability to grind out results continued with a late 1-0 home victory over Verona thanks to new right back Cambiaso. Their organisation and game management was evident again beating Fiorentina 1-0 through emerging talent Miretti.
A 2-1 win over Cagliari maintained momentum, with defensive duo Bremer and Rugani finding the net. Overall, early signs suggest a return to the solidity and efficiency that underpinned much of Allegri’s previous Juventus success. Greater productivity must come from forward areas however if they are to trouble elite European defences. But if the likes of Milik, new recruits Kvaratskhelia and Esposito can deliver goals while the defence stays robust, Juventus look well set to compete for trophies again.
Inter Milan form analysis
Inter made a thrilling if flawed start, twice taking the lead at home to Bologna before being pegged back to draw 2-2. But Inter soon found their ruthlessness by demolishing Torino 0-3 away from home, Martínez and Çalhanoğlu clinical throughout. This ability to grind out results was evident again beating title rivals Roma 1-0 through new signing Thuram. However defensive issues resurfaced conceding late on despite leading at Atalanta, eventually running out 2-1 winners. Inter returned to controlling matches with ease by beating newly promoted Frosinone 2-0.
Overall, Inter have shown they still carry multiple attacking threats to unlock sides as Martínez and Çalhanoğlu link up dangerously. But greater solidity is required at the back with new recruits Acerbi and Aké yet to impress. If Inter can replicate last season’s defensive stability to complement their attacking dynamism, they will take some stopping. But Inzaghi must find the right balance if they are to maintain a title challenge.
