Justin Gaethje suffered an explosive knockout at UFC 300 in April. After falling flat on his face in the middle of the Octagon, the last five months have been tough for Gaethje. However, as per the latest update, “The Highlight” is just a month away from returning from his break. Recently, while speaking to MMA Fighting, Gaethje said that he is looking to take a break for six months, which will end at the end of October. He also spoke about his decision to return to full sparring in November.
The Highlight named few fighters he wants to fight
While Gaethje will try to forget the harsh defeat against Max Holloway, he also has a few names on his mind. Thinking about who he wants to face next, “The Highlight” mentioned Dan Hooker, Charles Oliveira, Dustin Poirier and Alexander Volkanovski. While these are certainly big names, Volkanovski is already gearing up for his featherweight title rematch with Ilia Topuria if he manages to successfully defend his title against Holloway.
Five months back at UFC 300, Justin Gaethje entered the arena as the BMF champion and aimed to retain the title, but things turned out completely different for him. Max Holloway started performing brilliantly right from the first round, showing immense confidence. Such a dominant approach put Gaethje on the backfoot. Gaethje’s nose was broken and his face was covered in blood, with plenty of time left for the match to end.
Gaethje wants to redeem his defeat
Gaethje fought bravely through the pain, but the last few seconds were a great show for the audience. With Holloway’s win also confirmed, “Blessed” pointed to the middle of the ring and invited his opponent to box. This could have been a disaster for Holloway, as Gaethje is a fierce puncher. While both fighters were trading punches at each other, Holloway landed a powerful punch to Gaethje’s chin.

“The Highlight” instantly fell to the ground, giving “Blessed” the win. Reacting to his defeat, Gaethje said, “I got knocked out, woke up and was like, ‘I wanna golf.’ He stated that playing golf has been part of his recovery process, and he is looking forward to getting back to fighting once again. The win against Gaethje gave Holloway a big push. He is now set to take on Ilia Topuria for the featherweight title. While Gaethje is out of the title race, some notable wins could put him in the race again. He will now try to redeem himself after a major UFC 300 defeat.
