Cricket Australia has appointed Josh Inglis as captain for the upcoming T20 series against Pakistan. With many Test stars unavailable due to other commitments, Inglis, who has recently shown stellar form in the Sheffield Shield, steps up to lead Australia’s white-ball squad.
Known for his aggressive playstyle and tactical sharpness, the 29-year-old will be filling in for regular captain Pat Cummins, who will sit out the final game of the ODI series to prepare for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Inglis has demonstrated his leadership abilities previously with Australia A and is now set to guide a fresh, dynamic squad featuring some of the country’s best emerging talents, such as Jake Fraser-McGurk, Cooper Connolly, and Xavier Bartlett. The selection of these promising players highlights Australia’s focus on building a robust squad for the future.
George Bailey, Australia’s chief selector, expressed confidence in Inglis’s leadership, stating, “Josh is an integral member of the ODI and T20I teams and a highly respected player on and off the field. He has led Australia A previously and will bring strong tactical nous and a positive approach to the role.”
Bailey added that Inglis would be supported by seasoned campaigners like Matt Short and Adam Zampa, as well as senior players including Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, creating a well-rounded and experienced group.
The first T20 match against Pakistan will take place on November 14, with the ODI series concluding just four days prior. Inglis will step into the captaincy role for the final ODI, rounding out what is set to be a highly competitive white-ball series.
