Night two of WrestleMania 40 had one of the craziest matches in WWE history. The condition of the Bloodline rules meant that anything could happen and anyone could interfere with the match. This meant that not only the members of The Bloodline, but John Cena and The Undertaker also made cameo appearances, surprising everyone. There was also a specific moment during the match where most people believed that the company had managed to bring Jon Moxley (previously known as Dean Ambrose) back for that historic night.
The crowd expected Moxley to appear
Just as The Rock was about to hit Cody Rhodes with his “Mama Rhodes” belt, The Shield’s music hit. At that moment, the whole crowd was expecting that Jon Moxley would appear and join the already-incoming Seth Rollins. But it turned out that it was only Rollins appearing in his full Shield gear and this moment was quickly interrupted by Reigns, who hit him with a spear as soon as he stepped into the ring.
Moxley shared his thoughts about this
Despite proving over the years that anything can happen in the wrestling world, it was foolish for the fans to believe that Moxley would appear at WrestleMania. Recently, Moxley himself shared his thoughts about this in an interview and said, “I was sleeping in Japan when WrestleMania 40 was going on. When I woke up, I had these texts saying, “I thought you were coming out.” It’s good that people thought it was me, but I was sleeping.

This proves there were zero chances of Moxley appearing at WrestleMania because not only was he out of the country, but he was not even watching it live. Jon Moxley’s relationship with WWE and the possibilities of ever returning made for an interesting discussion, as his departure was unlike anything wrestling fans have seen before or since. The company announced that Moxley was leaving but continued to use him, giving him a sort of unofficial farewell tour. He has been signed to AEW since then, also giving him the freedom to compete elsewhere, hence his recent world title win in Japan. It would definitely be exciting to see him in WWE again, but it is hard to make predictions about someone like him.
