The current UFC Heavyweight Champion, Jon Jones, is facing two misdemeanor charges following an altercation with a drug testing agent on March 30. A report indicates Jones has been charged with assault and obstructing communications. If convicted, the UFC fighter could face less than a year in jail and be fined up to $500 for assault, a minor misdemeanor and obstructing communications.
Jones could be jailed if found guilty
According to a police report shared by ABQ Raw, a representative from the UFC’s anti-doping partner visited Jones’ home in Albuquerque to collect a random sample. Jon appeared agitated when he was unable to provide a urine sample and was instead asked to provide a blood sample. The report states that Jones confiscated the agent’s cellphone, questioned his early arrival and threatened him by saying that those who come to his house end up dead.
In a deleted Instagram post, Jones claimed that he was caught off guard by the unprofessionalism of the agent and admitted to using profanity. But the fighter denied making any threats of violence and called the allegations false.
A virtual bond hearing will be held on July 17 in Albuquerque Metropolitan Court, where Jones is expected to enter a plea. Amid these legal issues, the UFC Heavyweight Champion is preparing to defend his title. Although no official date has been finalized yet, Jones has indicated his next match will be against Stipe Miocic this November at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Jones has faced several legal issues
Jones has a history of misbehavior and has also faced numerous legal issues and controversies throughout his career. He has been arrested multiple times for drunken driving. Jones has also been accused of domestic violence on multiple occasions, with the most recent incident leading to his arrest in 2021. He has also failed multiple drug tests for banned substances, which has resulted in his suspension and stripping of his titles.
These incidents have ruined his reputation and overshadowed his accomplishments in the sport. Despite his incredible talent and success in the UFC, his repeated misbehavior has led to criticism.
