John Cena’s WWE farewell tour is set to begin next year. Cena will appear on several premium live events like Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, etc. The 16-time WWE champion will also have one last chance to win a world championship and end his wrestling career on a high note. If the Cenation leader manages to win the title, he will break Ric Flair’s record of most championship reigns. The 47-year-old recently talked about the possibilities of becoming the seventeen-time world champion before he retires.
Cena about a potential title reign
Cena appeared on the Shay Shay podcast, where he was asked about a possible 17th world championship reign before the end of next year. According to John, he is not sure if he will be able to win a WWE title during his upcoming retirement tour. Cena believes that the number-one contender’s sport in a story-driven objective is something you have to earn. The wrestler turned actor stressed on the fact that he has been a part-timer in WWE since 2018 and has not won a single match since then as well. “That’s a slump. Step one, I need to bust the slump,” said Cena.
While further sharing his thoughts, Cena said that if he manages to win the Royal Rumble next year, it will give him a direct chance to headline WrestleMania. Elimination Chamber is another possibility that can give him the opportunity to have a shot at the World Championship. Cena noted that Money in the Bank suitcase is a great opportunity to take on the world champion anytime. Noting these opportunities, John Cena said that this could be the way to his final world championship reign of his WWE career. He also mentioned that he needs to start winning from next year, January, in order to get a title shot.
