The Money in the Bank event on Saturday saw a shocking and emotional announcement by WWE veteran John Cena. The 16-time champion has announced his retirement from WWE. The moment came in the form of a surprise guest introduction by Trish Stratus, who brought Cena to the ring. “The Cenation Leader” revealed that his final matches in the ring will take place in 2025, culminating in a farewell fight at WrestleMania in Las Vegas. During his farewell tour, Cena will appear at the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania.
While addressing the fans, Cena expressed his gratitude for their support over the years and thanked them for allowing him to perform on the stage they built. Cena also announced that he would be answering questions at WWE’s post-show press conference and that he would be part of the kickoff show when WWE moves Raw to Netflix.
Cena will have his final matches in 2025
During the post-show press conference, Cena was asked about his legacy to which the WWE legend said that he never cared much about his legacy but wanted to give something back to WWE on his way out. When Cena was asked why he chose 2025, he stated that it wasn’t up to him and revealed that it was WWE’s idea to make this upcoming tour his last run. Cena said that he pitched the idea of a mini-retirement tour and WWE called him and thought these shows were the right time.
Next WrestleMania will be Cena’s last
When Cena was asked who his final opponent could be, he said that he was not in a position to choose his opponent. He was also asked if there is a possibility of him turning heel, to which he responded that fans will get to see his true form and he doesn’t think that way. He is not sure that a heel Cena will have any impact, as it is against his values. Cena confirmed that WrestleMania will not be his last match, it will simply be his last WrestleMania. He will continue to wrestle after the show until December 2025. WWE will keep him in the WWE family work to help the company in the future. However, he will no longer be physically active in the ring.
