Vince McMahon has committed many misdeeds when he was the chairman of WWE. He has cursed and yelled at several superstars, even kicking people out and ending their careers. Moreover, he has also asked people to record racist promos, which he publicly claimed to be against. Recently, former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal made a revelation about Vince McMahon and said that the former chairman once asked him to shoot a racist promo, which he didn’t want to do. Mahal revealed that he was told that the orders came directly from Vince and he had to do it at any cost. It is something that “The Modern Day Maharaja” regrets doing to this day.
Jinder Mahal was told to record a racist promo
During a chat with Chris Van Vliet on his Insight podcast, Jinder Mahal stated that he recorded a promo against Shinsuke Nakamura ahead of their SummerSlam clash in 2017. This was the year Mahal won the WWE Championship by defeating Randy Orton and defended it against several superstars. He was set to face Nakamura at SummerSlam, and ahead of the clash, Vince McMahon made him record a racist promo referring to the star’s ethnicity.
“I got the script from the writer saying, ‘This is from Vince, he wants you to say this.’ I was like, Oh man, I don’t want to say this, is there anything else we can do? ‘No, it came from Vince,’” said Mahal. “The Man of Peace” further revealed that he discussed with McMahon about his willingness to cut that promo. But McMahon told him that it wouldn’t matter much as there was nothing personal in it and it was just entertainment.
“The Maharaja” regrets doing the promo
Mahal even told Vince that there is going to be negative backlash to this but he said that it’s a character and just entertainment. Mahal said that he was extremely unhappy while recording that promo and wished he could take that moment back. After recording the promo, Mahal was told by one of the social media’s managers that the promo has received a huge backlash from fans.
Mahal was then given a clarification statement by some PR agent to put on social media, but it was pulled back by Vince McMahon. Mahal said that to this day he regrets shooting that promo, but also claimed that something like this will never happen again. He further said that the regime has changed now and that everything else is different.
