Asia Cup 2023: The Men in Blue opened the Super Fours competition on Sunday, September 10th, at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo against Pakistan. Despite aspirations for a complete match, persistent rain forced the game onto the designated reserve day after just 24.1 overs were completed on the scheduled day.
Surprisingly, the game between India and Pakistan got off to a terrific start with sunny skies and bright skies, despite rain being predicted in Colombo. India’s captain Rohit Sharma and opening partner Shubman Gill took advantage of the ideal batting conditions when given the chance to bat first. The two outperformed half-centuries, forging a partnership that lasted a century.

Shadab Khan and Shaheen Afridi, who respectively eliminated Rohit and Gill, brought Pakistan back into the match. The weather gods, however, had other plans. The Men in Blue are slated to play co-hosts Sri Lanka on Tuesday at the same location due to the uncertainty surrounding the outcome of Pakistan’s Super 4s match versus India.
Although there is a high probability that there will be clouds throughout the day, the possibility of precipitation may reduce to 84% with a 95% chance of cloud cover. The first match between India and Pakistan at the Asia Cup 2023 had to be postponed due to the weather in Kandy. Rain wrecked their group-stage encounter against Nepal and postponed their Super 4s match against Pakistan, so the weather isn’t looking good for them either.
On Saturday in Colombo, Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh in the Super 4 stage opener by a score of 21 runs. Dasun Shanaka, Matheesha Pathirana, and Maheesh Theekshana each took three wickets as Bangladesh was dismissed for 236 in 48.1 overs while defending 257.
Towhid Hridoy was the only batter who stood out in the Bangladeshi camp, and he had little support from his teammates. With 82 runs off 97 balls, Hridoy was one of the team’s top players in this match.
