IPL in UAE: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Jay Shah, has put an end to all the rumours and conjecture that the lucrative Twenty20 competition, the Indian Premier League (IPL), will be relocated to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The explanation follows rumours that there might be a move because of the approaching Indian general elections.
There had been earlier reports that some IPL franchises had asked to have some of their matches moved because of the elections. There were even rumours that BCCI officials were considering holding the second half of the IPL in the United Arab Emirates in order to circumvent any logistical issues brought on by the multi-phase election process.
Jay Shah refuted these rumours in a statement to Cricbuzz, reiterating that the entire IPL would take place in India on time. Shah responded, “No, it won’t be moved overseas.”
IPL in UAE rumours:
For similar reasons, the tournament was moved to South Africa and the United Arab Emirates in previous seasons. However, the BCCI is in favour of holding the entire event at home this time.
India’s general elections are scheduled to take place in seven stages between April 19 and June 1. The BCCI is anticipated to release the complete IPL schedule shortly after the polling dates have been announced. Only the first 21 games dates—which run from March 22 to April 7—have been confirmed as of yet.
In the meantime, the tournament’s opening match will be played in Chennai between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the reigning champion Chennai Super Kings. In addition to joining their squad, players taking part in the tournament are getting ready for the 17th IPL season.
Apart from this, the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL) second phase is reportedly being moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) because of the upcoming general elections in India, a claim that the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) has refuted. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) only revealed the first 21 matches of the tournament schedule, which gave rise to the rumours.
