The most anticipated boxing match between social media influencer and boxing icon Mike Tyson is all set to take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 20, 2024. The match will be live streamed on Netflix. Now the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has officially classified this match as a professional fight. There was too much speculation about whether this bout would be considered an exhibition or professional bout, but now everything is clear.
The fight will have eight rounds
According to a report, this exciting matchup will take place over eight rounds and each round will last two minutes. Both fighters will fight wearing 14-ounce gloves. The most interesting thing is that the result of this match will directly impact the professional records of both men. The co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, Nakisa Bidarian, expressed his gratitude for the sanctioning process of this fight and said that both Mike Tyson and Jake Paul signed on to fight each other with the desire to do so in a sanctioned professional bout, which would have a definitive outcome.
The bout is set to create history
Initially, when the fight was announced, many people raised their concerns over the considerable age difference between the two fighters, with Tyson being 57 and the “Problem Child” being 27. Many fans called it unfair, but now the 31-year age gap is set to create history in the boxing world. This will also surpass the previous record of a 24 years age gap in a professional bout. Mike Tyson’s last professional win came in 2003, but his return in 2020 for an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. did generate considerable interest.
Jake Paul is making a rapid rise in combat sports. His first professional bout was against NBA player Nate Robinson, where the YouTuber scored a knockout victory. After this, Paul got wins against aging and retired UFC fighters such as Tyron Woodley, Ben Askren, Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz. Jake got his first defeat against Tommy Fury in 2023. Now his focus is on facing more experienced boxers and one day we might actually see him compete for a world championship.
