Jake Paul and Mike Perry Engage in Verbal Warfare Ahead of July 20 Showdown
Jake Paul and Mike Perry may not be stepping into the ring until July 20, but the verbal jabs have already started. The two fighters exchanged heated words during a shared video conference on The MMA Hour on Wednesday, setting the stage for what promises to be a thrilling cruiserweight bout.
Scheduled for eight rounds, this fight sees Mike Perry donning 10-ounce gloves, a significant shift from his recent years in the brutal world of Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC). Despite Perry’s extensive experience in bare-knuckle fighting and MMA, he is still considered the underdog against Paul. However, Perry is eager to test Paul’s mettle.
“I know Mike Tyson says everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face but I like getting punched in my face,” Perry declared. “So my plan is coming together nicely.”
Paul found humor in Perry’s statement, especially the part about enjoying getting hit. “That’s because you’re a f*cking idiot,” Paul retorted. “What makes me good at fighting is I don’t like getting punched in the face and I practice not to. That’s what I’m going to teach you in the sport of boxing, you little bitch.”
Paul dismissed Perry’s experience in bare-knuckle fighting, emphasizing the difference between their respective sports. “This is not bare-knuckle. Not a bunch of old MMA fighters just running around punching each other bare-knuckle like some f*cking hooligans. I’ll show you a real sport.”
This confrontation is rooted in history. A few years ago, Paul and Perry sparred when Paul was still early in his boxing career. Paul often references that session to bolster his confidence as a professional fighter. “I was still just learning boxing, probably in my second year of boxing,” Paul recalled. “Worked him all five rounds when I was [at the gym] and now it’s going to be even crazier July 20.”
Perry Calls Jake Soft as Baby Shit
Perry, however, remembers the session differently. He noted that the sparring lasted six rounds, not five, and claimed he had the upper hand towards the end. “First of all, it seems I hit him hard enough because he was ducking and running that whole six rounds,” Perry said. “So it seems when I made him duck into my uppercut, he must have forgot that last round.
Paul has no plans to slow down his boxing career, even with a scheduled fight against Mike Tyson moved to November 15. “I’m on a tear,” Paul said. “I’m not slowing down for anybody. If people want to delay fights, I’ve got to get my experience in the ring. I love fighting. I love going under the bright lights and I love putting on shows for the fans and I will become champion but to do that, I need experience.”
While Perry respects Paul as a fighter, he believes Paul’s success is overhyped. “You’ve been fighting these cab drivers and these f*cking fat pieces of shit,” Perry shouted. “You think that you’re going to do anything to a real f*cking man like me, you lost your mind.”
Paul, confident in his abilities, asked that Perry’s bold predictions be included in highlight reels after their fight. “Everyone clip that once I beat his ass and then take this edit and then go to the clip of me knocking him the f*ck out,” Paul said. Perry, unfazed, retorted, “Bro, you ain’t knocking out nothing. You soft as baby shit.”
As the fight date approaches, the tension between Paul and Perry only continues to rise. Fans eagerly await to see if Perry can back up his words or if Paul will indeed deliver another knockout performance.
